Millennium

During the closing months of the 20th Century, Harrogate Borough Council claimed the deteriorating building for Social Housing development; this swiftly followed by enforced demolition. European Ceramics, as 1st floor tenant, was rendered suddenly and unexpectedly homeless. Sadly, the unique atmosphere created in the old warehouse proved impossible to repeat in temporary venues. Despite several carefully curated shows in display areas made available by fellow curators anxious to support survival, the core spirit was lost. Therefore, when the final external exhibition closed, it became vital to address change.

Inevitably a new chapter opened up; creative focus shifted back to Maggie’s private practice as a designer-maker and freelance consultant. This included a period of advisory work with Art Connections & Chrysalis Arts during the initial development period of the North Yorkshire Open Studios Project.
